Latta Plantation was beautiful today, despite the high temperatures. When I stopped by, a solitary sheep was grazing on the front lawn of the historical house and a few visitors were milling about. Nicole Cheslak, the Executive Director at Latta, took time to speak with me about her willingness to work with other organizations in marketing our area. The fact is, Nicole’s annual budget has been cut by about $20,000, and times are tough. She is dependent upon the few staffers and a number of dedicated volunteers to accomplish the summer camp and event successes that keep visitors coming. And she herself is working longer hours.
Nicole, and I, know that Latta is really not much different from the other businesses and destinations in our area. Things are tight. So why wouldn’t we figure out ways to work together?
